Jodie Johnson and Pedro Vergara got an unpleasant surprise on their wedding day: wildfire heading straight for their reception site, the Ridge Golf Course, was directly in the path of the devastating Auburn "49er" fire. By the time their wedding was about to start, smoke was blanketing the sky at the Ridge -- and the fire was less than half a mile away. "Within fifteen minutes, smoke was covering the sky and half the horizon," said
Eric Leas of Acti-Video Productions. "We were all trying to be positive." Happily, though, thanks to the efforts of the bride, groom, guests and the team of wedding professionals, the wedding was moved -- not once, but twice -- so that it could be held at the Sun City Roseville's Timber Creek Ballroom. A happy ending for Jodie and Pedro -- and some much needed positive news for the community of Auburn, which to date has lost more than 60 homes. The fire is still only 50% contained.
